10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always fun for a lot of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter near an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of a house?
The exterior of your house could use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your house in Conroe, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save money over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time to clean your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build their homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you too much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows can be trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, patio furniture, patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem counter-productive because you will still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washing service can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use during the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter when you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in rough shape the first time you go onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical home roof problems in Conroe. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your house, it is a great time to clean your roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is typically obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The ideal process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it be. This mixture will kill all organic organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will improve your day, and it will probably encourage you to spend a lot more time outside.
Clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and think about painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean forgotten areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will probably be spending more time outside, so spring is an excellent opportunity to organize the things you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an exact area outside your house – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your house so much more throughout the time of year when you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the look of your house.
Remove weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably finish these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! ACC Conroe Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
